The Prevalent Black and White Trend For 2011

The Fall 2011 Haute Couture collections marked a return of fashion’s favorite monochrome combination. Black and white looks ruled the runway after last season, when designers avoided being too bland by matching basic looks with splashes of bright, neon accessories. This time around, however, designers amped up the glam factor by showering the looks in all-over shimmer that glistened and gleaned as models strutted beneath the bright lights of the runway.

The White

In the Chanel collection, Karl Lagerfeld presented a half-structured, half-flowy ivory creation that was full of sparkle, a great match with our Splendor Diamond collection. Stéphane Rolland, the Parisian fashion superstar, presented an equally shiny long-sleeved white dress that looked as if black, sparkly ink splashed up from the ground. Adding just the right amount of black accent, especially with a great accessory like the Savana Rock & Roll, adds a flattering monochrome contrast.  Finally, Elie Saab embellished a short-sleeved gown with reflective sequins, showing that a little texture can go a long way (Splendor Intrex, anyone?)

The Black

While designers went sheer with the glimmering white styles, the black creations were opaque and sexy. Christophe Josse‘s off-the-shoulder gown was the look every Hollywood celebrity (like Kim Kardashian or Paris Hilton) is always looking to wear on the red carpet. Giambattista Valli went for a shorter hemline and white sleeves with his sparkly, textured party dress that’s perfect with a trusty clutch like the Intrex Clutch, and Jean Paul Gaultier topped off a bold sequined dress with a black tuxedo coat for a strong, mod look.
